Andy Sutherland is an Associate Attorney at Fuksa Khorshid focusing his practice on intellectual property matters. Andy joined the firm in October 2021 as a law clerk before being promoted to Associate Attorney in November 2023. Andy brings a unique perspective to intellectual property matters, with several years’ experience in arts marketing and branding.

Areas of Experience

Andy primarily handles intellectual property matters for businesses of all sizes, including litigation, counselling, and transactional matters. Andy has practiced in an array of venues, including the United States Patent and Trademark Office, the Trademark Trial and Appeals Board, the World Intellectual Property Organization, and state and federal courts. Andy has experience in legal matters, including: trademark prosecution and enforcement; licensing agreements; trademark disputes; domain-name infringement and takedown; confidentiality and non-disclosure matters; copyright defense; Internet fraud and abuse; and intellectual property counseling.

Business Experience

Prior to joining the firm, Andy worked for several non-profit arts organizations, including Adventure Stage Chicago Theater for Young Audiences and the Beverly Arts Center, where he approached brand building with an eye towards sustainable budgeting. He also interned at Lawyers for the Creative Arts, helping arts organizations and creative professionals on a variety of copyright, trademark, and governmental regulation matters, including drafting proposals to implement relief programs to the arts community during COVID-19. Andy’s prior business experience has enabled him to understand and communicate complex legal problems in an attainable way to both clients and attorneys alike.

In his free time, Andy enjoys playing music and volunteering for environmental organizations and causes throughout Chicago.
